Bolsonaro releases data showing how security has improved during his time in office

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has released some data showing how his government has improved the security of Brazilians.

Bolsonaro pointed out via his official Twitter account that the average annual number of violent deaths dropped from 61,000 per year during the administrations of Dilma Rousseff and Michel Temer between 2015 and 2018, to 48,000 per year during Bolsonaro's tenure, or 20%.

The Brazilian president offers one explanation for the drop in violent deaths: Investment in public safety.
