There was a similar pattern for the remainder of the administration’s term term of office, with an increase in negative expectations from 38 to 46 percent and a drop in positive expectations from 35 to 30 percent.

Ratings

In the period, the average rating assigned to the President also dropped: it was 5.1 in the survey released on April 24th and was 4.7 in the current survey. The average rating assigned to Sérgio Moro, on the other hand, increased: from 6.2 to 6.5 since he left the government.

As for Congress’ rating, the share of those who consider it poor or terrible rose from 36 to 40 percent, while the good or great rating dropped from 18 to 16 percent.

Regarding the impact of Moro’s resignation from the Ministry of Justice and Public Safety, 67 percent of respondents believe it will have negative impacts on the government. Regarding the new minister, André Mendonça, 69 percent say they believe he will act with the President’s interference, while only 19 percent expect independent action.

Economy

The new survey also showed a more unfavorable outlook regarding the economy. According to 52 percent of respondents, the economy is on the wrong track, compared to 47 percent last week. Those who perceive the economy to be on the right track have dropped from 35 to 32 percent.

The largest proportion of respondents (62 percent) believe that the Bolsonaro should change economic policy, with more government investments, to overcome the crisis. Meanwhile, 29 percent believe that the President should maintain the reforms and the reduction of public spending, with a greater share of private companies.

The survey also recorded an increase in the percentage of those who say they are “very afraid” of the coronavirus outbreak: 48 percent this week against 41 percent the week before.
