RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – With the dismissal of the lawsuit that dealt with the alleged receipt of kickbacks from entrepreneurs in exchange for advantages in the government, ex-president Lula has come closer to ending the long list of legal proceedings he had been facing since leaving the Presidency.

Lula is currently the target of 3 lawsuits, 2 of which are in Brasilia (the case of the Brazilian Air Force fighter jets and BNDES funds to Odebrecht in Angola) and another in São Paulo (another corruption case involving international funds).

In the fighter jets case, the PT president is using Vaza-Jato leaks to request its dismissal. As for the others, his defense believes they will be dismissed based on the same lack of evidence registered in the Federal Court of the Federal District decision acquitting Lula in Operation Zelotes.

The wave of lawsuits against Lula in Lava-Jato Paraná, virtually anulled by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) ruling to reset the game and forward the cases to the Federal District no longer worry the leftist. They should be overturned in time, according to the defense, as soon as Sérgio Moro is declared biased in Lula’s cases.

Over the past few years, there have been 15 rulings dismissing lawsuits and proceedings against the ex-president, with summary acquittal or dismissal of charges and indictments, or even anulling cases. Attorney Cristiano Zanin Martins was in charge of Lula’s defense in these cases.

“We were able to prove over time that everything we said at the beginning of the technical defense of ex-president Lula was correct. Several rulings have confirmed that Lula had not committed any crime and was being a victim of lawfare, which we define as the strategic use of laws to obtain illegitimate ends, of a political, geopolitical, commercial or military nature,” says Martins.

The graveyard of lawsuits against Lula already had the PT “quadrillion,” accusations of buying Cerveró’s silence in the famous Delcídio do Amaral case, among others. Lula, as one can see, will reach the 2022 election very, very light.
