Vacation season 2022: What is needed to enter Uruguay, Chile and Brazil?

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – December arrives, summer breaks out and people start planning their vacations. Thus, in a period marked by health care and the complicated economic situation of many families, local destinations appear as the main option.

However, there are those who are looking for relaxation in a neighboring country. For them, it will be essential to keep up to date with the latest tourist information.

What documents are needed to enter the country? Do I need to take a PCR test? Quarantine? Take out your pen, write down and avoid negative surprises after packing your bags.

URUGUAY

What documents do I need?

Under normal conditions, foreign visitors do not need to go through special immigration procedures, they enter the country with a valid passport. For citizens of neighboring countries, an identity card is sufficient.

Minors traveling alone will be checked for compliance with the immigration regulations of the country of origin, which generally refer to the written permission of the parents.

Who can enter?

Since November 1, 2021 the borders are open to all national citizens, residents and foreigners.

Do I have to be vaccinated?

It is not an exclusive requirement. However, it is necessary to keep in mind that in the case of non-immunized foreigners they may only enter if they meet some of the reasons for exception contemplated in Article 2 of Decree 104/020.

Requirements for vaccinated persons:

  • To have received the single dose or the two doses against SARS-CoV-2 virus approved by their country of origin, within the last 9 months prior to embarkation and have complied with the respective waiting periods to achieve effective immunity.
  • Proof of vaccination and compliance with the above-mentioned deadlines, by means of a certificate issued by the health authority of their country of origin.
  • Proof of a negative result of a SARS-CoV-2 virus detection test (by molecular biology technique PCR-RT), performed no more than 72 hours before the beginning of the trip, in an authorized laboratory in the country of origin or transit.
  • In case the entry to the country is through a commercial means of passenger transportation, the accreditation of the negative test must be done prior to boarding before the corresponding company.
  • To take a new PCR-RT test on the seventh day of stay in the country or to undergo mandatory preventive social isolation for 14 days after entering the country.
    Have health coverage in Uruguay.
  • Complete the electronic form within 48 hours prior to embarkation, which will be considered as a sworn statement under the terms of article 239 of the Penal Code.

Requirements for non-vaccinated persons:

  • Make known the reason for entry.
  • These may be: if it is a person who owns real estate or a prominent buyer; if entering for humanitarian reasons; diplomats who must take functions in the country; if entering for duly justified situations of family reunification; if entering for judicial reasons; if entering for economic reasons.
  • To process the exceptional entry online.
  • Finalize the process with the Traveler’s Health Affidavit.
  • Once the entry is authorized, you will receive an e-mail with the link to complete the process.
  • Perform a new PCR-RT test 7 days after entering the country or comply with the mandatory preventive social isolation for 14 days after entering the country.
  • If you stay in Uruguay for less than 7 days, you will not have to take this test or comply with the isolation.

Requirements for those who have had the disease in the last 3 months:

  • Present a positive test result by molecular biology technique PCR-RT or antigen detection test, performed between a maximum of 90 days and up to 20 days prior to embarkation or arrival in the country.
  • It must be attached to the Affidavit and presented to the company in which they are traveling prior to embarkation.
  • Have health coverage in Uruguay.
  • Complete the electronic form within 48 hours prior to boarding, which will be considered a sworn statement under the terms of Article 239 of the Penal Code.
  • They must not undergo isolation or post-entry tests.

CHILE

What documents do I need?

To enter or leave the country through the border crossings, you must present one of the following documents:

  • DNI Digital card (last copy issued by RENAPER)
  • DNI Digital light blue book (last copy issued by RENAPER).
  • Passport.

If a minor under 18 years of age is traveling with both parents, they must prove the link by presenting: Civil Family Book, Birth Certificate, Birth Certificate, or DNI of the minor under 18, in which the filiatory data of the parents are stated.

If the minor under 18 is traveling with only one of his/her parents, he/she, in addition to proving the relationship with one of the aforementioned documents, must accompany the authorization of the absent parent.

If the minor is the son or daughter of a child under 18 years of age, he/she needs the authorization of the parents and the permission of one of his/her grandparents.
Single Migration Card

The International Police Office provides at the moment of entering Chile a form in duplicate called “Tarjeta Única Migratoria” (Unique Migratory Card). This card is personal and non-transferable. The copy must remain in the tourist’s possession for the duration of his/her stay in the country and must be presented to the International Police when leaving Chile.

To enter Chile, tourists must inform the reasons for the trip, the duration of the visit, and that they have tickets to leave Chile to their country of origin or to a third country. In the latter case, they must also prove that they have the authorization to enter the third country, showing the corresponding passport, visa, or entry permit.

Who can enter?

Foreigners who have a Chilean mobility pass (vaccine passport) may enter the country. This consists of a certificate of vaccination against coronavirus previously validated in Chile.

What are the requirements?

  • The traveler must complete the “Traveler’s Affidavit” form electronically and up to 48 hours before boarding.
  • The traveler must attach a negative PCR test result for SARS-CoV-2 to the Traveler’s Affidavit.
  • The traveler must attach to the Traveler’s Affidavit a certificate from a medical insurance company that covers medical assistance, hospital care and repatriation expenses.

Do I have to be vaccinated?

Strict Isolation in Declared Domicile

  • Persons with Mobility Pass: 5 days of isolation, 120 hours counted from the sanitary customs control at the point of entry into the country; the end of the isolation may be anticipated by obtaining a negative result of the PCR test performed in Chile
  • Persons without Mobility Pass: 7 days of isolation, 168 hours counted from the sanitary customs control at the point of entry into the country. A negative result of the PCR test performed at the airport does not allow the isolation period to end.

What documents do I need?

  • To enter or leave the country through the border crossings, you must present one of the following documents
  • DNI Digital card (last copy issued by RENAPER).
  • DNI Digital light blue book (last copy issued by RENAPER).
  • Passport.

If a minor under 18 years of age is traveling with both parents, they must prove the link by presenting: Civil Family Book, Birth Certificate, Birth Certificate, or DNI of the minor under 18, in which the filiatory data of the parents are stated.

If the minor under 18 is traveling with only one of his/her parents, he/she, in addition to proving the relationship with one of the aforementioned documents, must accompany the authorization of the absent parent.

If the minor is the son or daughter of a child under 18 years of age, he/she needs the authorization of the parents and the permission of one of his/her grandparents.

What are the requirements?

By air:

The traveler of international origin, Brazilian or foreign, must present to the airline responsible for the flight, before boarding an RT-PCR test or Antigen test with negative / non-reactive result, performed no later than 72 hours before the time of boarding. It must be:

  • In Portuguese, English or Spanish
  • Performed in a laboratory recognized by the authorities of the country of shipment.
    Not required for children under 2 years of age
  • Children 2 years of age or older and under 12 years of age must present the test result if traveling alone, but children 2 years of age or older and under 12 years of age traveling with an accompanying person are exempt from the test.

Submit the completed Traveler’s Health Declaration (DSV) (printed or digitally), accepting the health measures to be complied with during the period in the country.

To fill in the sworn declaration of departure from Argentina (DDJJ), which must be filled in the 48 hours prior to the trip. The DDJJ is required by the Argentine Government. Questions about this form should be consulted with the National Direction of Migration.

Recommendation

Due to local policies, the Consultant recommends: “Each Brazilian state or municipality determines the rules for internal displacement and social isolation in its territory. Therefore, we recommend that you consult directly with the government of the state or municipality you wish to visit while planning your trip to Brazil.”
