RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The U.S. Embassy said in a statement on Tuesday, March 30th, that the country will help Brazil in its efforts and maximize access to vaccines. Ambassador Todd Chapman met by videoconference with Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga to review the United States’ cooperation with Brazil in fighting the new coronavirus pandemic.
“The United States has stood with Brazil and the Brazilian people in tackling Covid-19 since the pandemic began. The meeting between Ambassador Chapman and Minister Queiroga was an important opportunity to reiterate our commitment,” the statement said.
“The ambassador took the opportunity to review U.S. cooperation and talked about access to vaccines. While our priority is ensuring U.S. access to vaccines, we are actively engaging Brazil on ways to assist in their efforts and maximize Brazil’s access to safe, effective, quality vaccines for Brazilians.”
The Ambassador also highlighted what the U.S. has already accomplished over the 12 months of the pandemic, such as providing supplies, health equipment, food baskets, lung ventilators, field hospitals, personal protective equipment, and medical, technical assistance.
The U.S. government and the U.S. private sector have already donated more than US$75 million to Brazilian communities struggling with the new virus’s accelerating pace.
Ambassador Chapman reiterated the U.S. commitment to continue efforts to reduce the pandemic’s impact on Brazilian communities.
