The majority of Peruvians disapprove of Boluarte’s administration

In line with her predecessor, Pedro Castillo – one of the most unpopular presidents in Peruvian history – the disapproval of President Dina Boluarte reached its highest peak since she took office last December 7, 2022.

On occasion, Castillo ordered the illegal closure of Parliament and ended up under arrest and is serving preventive imprisonment for the alleged crimes of rebellion and conspiracy.

According to the latest Ipsos poll for América Televisión, Boluarte has a 77% disapproval rating at the national level.

The figure represents an increase of one point compared to last March, when she registered 76%, and six percentage points compared to January.

The main cause of the rejection of the head of state is that she is not looking for solutions to improve the economic scenario of the country (45%), hit by the backwardness of the Covid-19 pandemic and the violent protests that paralyzed the country, whipped up by the left wing, that sees her as a traitor for succeeding Castillo.

Other causes are:

• she does not handle social protests well (38%),
• is involved in acts of corruption (31%),
• is not supporting the victims of the rains and landslides (30%),
• wants to stay in government/does not want the elections to be brought forward (28%),
• betrayed Pedro Castillo/Congress ally (27%),
• does not support the low-income population (22%).

On the other hand, only 15% support the Peruvian president.

Support is justified by:

• she is improving the economy (41%),
• supports the victims of the rains in the north region (27%).

The north region, which did not mobilize against Boluarte, has been hit by a cyclone that has destroyed roads, crops, and houses.

In addition, there is a warning of the arrival of the El Niño phenomenon.

CONGRESS DISAPPROVED

84% of the population does not support national representation.

This represents an increase of two points compared to February and March.

Meanwhile, 15% support it.

On the other hand, the citizenry’s perception regarding the role that Congress played during the failed self-coup of Castillo is worrisome.

When asked about what happened on December 7 last year, 49% of those surveyed believe that the Parliament carried out a coup d’état to remove the unionist from power.

46% consider the opposite, that it was Castillo who wanted to break the constitutional order by ordering the closing of the Legislative and the intervention of the Judicial Power and the Prosecutor General’s Office to call for a constituent assembly of Chavista style, one of his greatest ambitions.
