Starlink satellite internet lowers the price in Brazil

In response to “local market conditions,” Elon Musk’s internet prices have been cut by up to 50% in several countries.

Starlink customers got good news this week: the monthly fee will drop. In order to adapt to the local market, the reduction can reach half of the amount paid in certain cases. In Brazil, for example, from R$500 per month, subscribers will pay R$230. Something around US$45. This change became effective as of Wednesday (24).

At first, the change is exclusively in the price. In other words, Elon Musk’s company has not announced any cuts in internet speed. Users are receiving short messages that explain more about the subject:

As of 8/24/2022, Starlink is reducing its monthly service fee. The price reduction follows factors from your local market conditions and is intended to reflect purchasing power parity in our customers.
In addition to Brazil, several other countries are receiving Starlink’s internet price decrease.

According to a post on Reddit, Mexico has also secured a cut of more than 50% in tuition, from MXN$2,300 to MXN$1,100. Germany and the United Kingdom did not earn half, but a little less than that. From €$100 to €$80 and £89 to £75, respectively.

Anyway, whenever something moves our pockets in a positive way, it’s hard to complain. Even more so in a difficult time financially.

This might be the best time to try out the service.

SpaceX presented the second generation of its Starlink antennas at the end of 2021, but only in July 2022 were they released by Anatel for use in Brazil. In this way, with the decrease in monthly fees, the opportunity to subscribe to Elon Musk’s internet can gain more attention from the Brazilian people.

On the other hand, the price of the installation kit remains expensive: around R$2,000. Thus, it becomes complicated to suggest for a common user. In any case, getting the promised speed of up to 1GB per second and 25 millisecond latency is encouraging, but only for those who can fork out the upfront cash.
