Pro-Bolsonaro YouTuber Beaten in Homophobic Attack in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – YouTuber Karol Eller, known as a supporter of Bolsonaro’s government, was the target of a homophobic attack that left her face disfigured.

According to columnist Leo Dias, from the Jornal de Brasília, the attack occurred last Sunday, December 15th, at a kiosk on the beach of Barra da Tijuca. She was with her girlfriend when she was battered with punches and kicks. She eventually passed out as a result of the brutality of the action, according to the journalist’s report.

Karol Eller spoke about the case on her Instagram. She wrote that she was in no condition to talk about it.

She also published a video, where a friend describes her situation: “Just a clarification: Karol is on medication, she can not see very well, can not speak properly and is in a recovery period. This is a cowardly act, what they have done to her. She is in a state of shock. Thank you for the affection, let’s pray and hope for her recovery.”

A friend of the YouTuber, city councilor Carlos Bolsonaro posted a message on his Instagram and Twitter with the photo of Karol after the beating.

Karol Eller has 79,000 followers on YouTube and 239,000 on Instagram. Together, the two networks total 6,022 publications.

In the photos, videos, and texts, the YouTuber is posing with President Jair Bolsonaro, his son Eduardo, and ministers Sérgio Moro, Paulo Guedes, and Damares Alves.

A close friend of Jair Renan, the youngest of the clan, Eller appears with the boy in his posts in the residence and the official car of the president.

Recently, Eller also used the opportunity to defend the president in an interview on Antônia Fontenelle’s YouTube channel. “In my opinion, he was the only person who defended my story. I tried to speak out and nobody listened to me. I felt dirty, I felt wrong. I was guilty of that and it was something devilish. He [Bolsonaro] may be Shrek, that ogre Brazil needs. Being a good politician, to embrace, Lula has already done that,” she said.

A homosexual, Karol Eller said in the interview that she sees no difference between homophobia and prejudice.

“Homophobia is when someone can’t stand someone else, it is aggressive. Prejudice is when you have a preconceived concept of the gay figure. And conservatism is when you don’t have any prejudice, but you don’t want it for your son either. Which father wants to have a gay son?”, she asked, pointing out that she was not speaking on behalf of the LGBT community.

In her Instagram, she published a video embracing Damares Alves, the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, on November 19th. In the post, the politician advertises Eller: “I follow her, I am inspired by her, she is a brave woman and a warrior”.

And Eller returns the kindness: “It is I who am inspired by you, the whole of Brazil is also inspired. Congratulations on your work”.
