RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro said on Thursday, August 15th, that he would not allow the National Film Agency (ANCINE) to release grants for a number of productions with LGBT themes which have been attempting to raise funds.
The four works cited were part of a notice issued by ANCINE, the Southern Regional Development Bank (BRDE) and the Brazil Communication Company (EBC).
The notice, published on March 13th, 2018, was challenged by Jair Bolsonaro for releasing funds for films directed to the LGBT public.
“Afronte”, “Transversais”, “Religare Queer”, and “O sexo reverso” are projects announced in March as part of a preliminary process selection.
“We went digging into ANCINE for films that were ready for fundraising in the market,” said the president on Facebook. The notice in which the productions took part would invest directly in them.
“It’s money thrown away. It makes no sense to make a film with this theme,” said Bolsonaro.
