Paraguayan foreign minister to discuss bilateral and regional agenda with Blinken in Washington

Paraguayan Foreign Minister Julio Cesar Arriola will meet next week with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington as part of a tour to participate in international conferences in New York and the Dominican Republic, the South American country’s foreign ministry said.

“Chancellor Arriola will travel to Washington, US, where on Monday, March 27, he will meet with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, to discuss issues on the bilateral, regional, and multilateral agenda,” the portfolio published in a statement.

The Paraguayan minister participates in the “United Nations Water Conference 2023”, held since March 20 in New York.

In the framework of the UN event, Arriola will hold bilateral meetings, and a meeting with the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, is planned for the subscription of the National Program Framework 2022-2027 of Paraguay with the organization, the Foreign Ministry detailed.

On March 23, the Foreign Minister will travel to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to participate, together with Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez, in the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, which will occur on March 24 and 25, under the slogan “Together for a fair and sustainable Ibero-America”.

At the summit, the participating countries “will adopt four instruments through which Ibero-America will set out its position and propose solutions to some of the main challenges facing the region, such as the Ibero-American Environmental Charter, the Ibero-American Charter of Principles and Digital Rights, the Strategy to achieve food security, and the Special Communiqué on International Financial Architecture, which systematizes a proposal to move towards a fairer, more inclusive and flexible international financial system,” the Foreign Ministry said.

After the meeting with Blinken, Arriola will travel to the city of Tampa, in the state of Florida (southeast of the US), to accompany Abdo Benítez on the visit he will make to the military base of the Air Force of the North American country to discuss issues of cooperation in matters of security and defense.
