New restrictions announced for residents and travelers entering Chile

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health announced new restrictions for nationals and foreigners residing in the country entering Chile, as well as for foreigners entering the country, as part of the measures to avoid the increase of cases and spread of new variants of Coronavirus.

Travelers from any place of origin must comply with a mandatory 10-day quarantine, with no possibility of exemption. It will no longer be possible to perform a PCR test from day 7.

In addition, all travelers who test positive within the first 14 days after entering the country will have to undergo an 11-day isolation period in a Health Residence.

Finally, all travelers entering the country who present one or two symptoms related to the disease will be referred to a Health Residence until the disease is ruled out.

New measures for those traveling from Brazil to Chile

In addition, the Minsal informed new restrictions for travelers coming from Brazil or who have been in that country in the last 14 days.

In this line, passengers must be transferred to a transit hotel. They must stay there for at least 72 hours, regardless of a negative PCR result. You may leave after 72 hours of stay and with a negative PCR result, but you must continue your 10-day quarantine at home.

All costs associated with his entry must be paid by the traveler himself when he takes out his health passport before flying to Chile, said the Ministry of Health.

“We are talking about the transfer, the transit hotel and the PCR must be paid by the traveler himself when he gets his health passport before taking the plane to Chile. In other words, they will be required to pay the cost of these measures”, explained Paula Daza, Undersecretary of Public Health. These measures for travelers from Brazil will be maintained for at least one month and will be subject to the epidemiological situation.

According to the Ministry of Health, these are the measures to be taken by people entering the country regardless of their country of origin:

The journey to your quarantine place should be direct, without interacting with other people and always wearing a mask.

Isolation should be individual or with the same group with which you have traveled. That is, if you share your home with other people who did not travel, you must isolate yourself in a dormitory.

You may not share with other people living in the same household or receive visitors.

You must be alert in case of any symptoms, as well as comply with the traveler’s follow-up for 14 days after entering the country.
