Momentum Fades for Mexican Stocks: Technical Indicators Reveal Cautious Outlook
The S&P/BMV IPC index closed at 56,739.90 on July 10, 2025, according to official market data and TradingView charts. The session saw the index move within a range of 56,370.49 to 56,809.71.
The market maintained a cautious tone as investors weighed local inflation figures and central bank policy signals. Trading volumes remained robust, with major stocks such as Grupo Mexico and Wal-Mart de Mexico seeing millions of shares exchanged.
The Mexican peso strengthened slightly, closing at 18.6055 against the U.S. dollar. This movement followed inflation data that eased some pressure on local assets, with June’s inflation at 4.32 percent, still above the central bank’s three percent target.
The technical analysis of the daily chart shows the IPC index holding above key support at 55,884.82 but staying below resistance at 57,490.92. The 50-day and 200-day moving averages remain upward sloping, confirming a long-term uptrend.
However, the MACD indicator has turned slightly negative, reflecting a loss of bullish momentum. The RSI stands at 43.74, signaling neutral conditions but trending lower.

Bollinger Bands show the price near the lower band, indicating increased volatility and a potential for a short-term rebound if support holds. On the four-hour chart, the index displays sideways to mildly bearish movement.
The MACD shows a bearish crossover, and the RSI at 37.61 approaches oversold territory. The price action hovers near short-term moving averages, and the lower Bollinger Band is being tested.
These technical signals suggest caution, with downside risk if support fails, but also a possibility of a technical bounce. Market fundamentals continue to drive sentiment.
The Bank of Mexico signaled a slower pace of rate cuts due to persistent inflation and weak economic growth. Investors remain wary of ongoing U.S. tariff threats and global trade uncertainty, which weigh on Mexican exporters and industrials.
Compared to global peers, the Mexican market lagged. The S&P 500 reached a record high, and European indices like Germany’s DAXK and Spain’s IBEX outperformed.
The Hang Seng in Hong Kong remained the top global performer year-to-date. Despite this, Mexico’s IPC index showed resilience relative to other emerging markets.
The five biggest winners for the session included Promotora y Operadora de Infraestructura, up 10.84 percent, and Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, up 3.48 percent.
Grupo Mexico gained 2.72 percent, Grupo Carso rose 2.29 percent, and Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte advanced 1.87 percent. These gains reflected strong earnings and positive sector data.
On the losing side, Banorte fell 3.80 percent, and Inbursa dropped 4.52 percent, pressured by concerns over slower rate cuts and financial sector headwinds.
Kimberly-Clark de México, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, and Alpek also declined, reflecting sector-specific challenges and lower trading volumes. ETF flows showed moderate inflows into Mexico-focused funds, reversing some outflows from June.
The market’s direction remains closely tied to inflation trends, central bank policy, and global trade developments. The technical outlook suggests a neutral to slightly bearish short-term view, with a constructive long-term bias if key support levels hold.
