Mexican Stock Market Faces Pressure Amid Global Trade Tensions
Official charts from TradingView show the S&P/BMV IPC Index closed at 56,687.54 on July 9, 2025, marking a drop of 0.87% for the session.
The market spent the day under pressure as investors digested fresh U.S. tariff threats and persistent inflation concerns. Mexican equities tracked global peers lower, with the session’s high at 57,232.98 and a low at 56,617.77.
Trading volume remained robust, signaling active repositioning as investors responded to external shocks. The Mexican peso held steady, but broad-based selling hit large-cap financial and consumer stocks.
The session saw most sectors in the red, with only a handful of stocks posting gains. Inbursa led the winners, closing up 0.49%, while Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico showed resilience with a marginal loss of 0.13%.

On the losing side, Grupo Mexico fell 2.24% as copper price gains failed to offset trade war fears. Banorte dropped 1.23% and Arca Continental lost 1.81%, reflecting sector-wide pressure.
Promotora Ambiental SA and Corporativa Fragua SAB recorded the steepest losses at 2.56% and 2.36%, respectively. America Movil, Minera Autlan, and Coca-Cola FEMSA also posted notable declines.
Comparing the IPC’s performance to global benchmarks, the Mexican market underperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which rose 0.5%, and lagged behind European indices like the DAX, which gained 1.09%.
Mexican IPC Faces Continued Downtrend Amid Inflation
Asian markets delivered mixed results, with South Korea outperforming and China’s Shanghai Composite dipping slightly. Technical analysis of the daily chart shows the IPC in a short-term downtrend since its May peak.
The index trades below the 50-day and 100-day moving averages, signaling persistent weakness. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits near 43, indicating the market approaches oversold territory but lacks a clear reversal signal.
The MACD histogram remains negative, and the signal line stays below zero, confirming bearish momentum. Bollinger Bands show the price near the lower band, which often signals increased volatility and the potential for a technical bounce if support holds.
Key support levels appear at 55,914.89 and 53,274.31, while resistance stands at 57,172.55 and 57,488.47. The four-hour chart confirms short-term weakness, with the index testing lower Bollinger Band support and the RSI near 37.
The MACD shows a recent bearish crossover, and price action remains below the Ichimoku cloud, underscoring a bearish outlook. These signals suggest the market could see a technical rebound if external pressures ease, but the medium-term trend remains negative.
ETF outflows continued as investors rotated to perceived safer markets, and the day’s elevated trading volumes reflected broad-based selling.
Persistent core inflation and external tariff risks drove caution, with fundamentals and technicals both pointing to a challenging environment for Mexican equities.
The market’s trajectory will depend on how quickly global trade tensions and domestic inflation pressures subside.
