Dollar closes stable, sold at R$5.17, in a day of volatility

Still, under the influence of the North American market, the dollar closed flat, having crossed the R$ 5.20 mark during the day. The stock market alternated between highs and lows but recorded slight gains due to the rise in international oil prices.

The commercial dollar closed this Thursday (18) and sold at R$5.172, up 0.08%. The price started the day at a low and fell to R$5.13 in the first minutes of trading. With the opening of the market in the United States, but rose, touching R$5.21 at 14:30, to slow down near the end of negotiations.

The volatility of the stock market also marked the day. Ibovespa index B3 closed at 113.813 points, up 0.09%. The indicator rose in the morning, went into negative territory during the afternoon, and recovered at the close with the help of Petrobras shares.

Since Thursday (17), the global financial market has been influenced by the Federal Reserve’s (Fed, U.S. central bank) indications about the future of interest rates in the United States.

The minutes of the last meeting indicate that the Fed will reduce the pace of increase in key interest rates to 0.5 percentage points at the next meeting.

However, the document indicates that interest rates will need to remain high for a long time to contain U.S. inflation, which is at its highest level in 41 years.

A regional Fed official reiterated that the organization plans to maintain its tight inflation control. Higher interest rates in advanced economies are spurring capital flight from emerging markets like Brazil, putting pressure on the dollar and the stock market.
