Covid-19: Brazil Counts 97,256 Deaths, 2.02 Million Recovered Patients (August 5th)

RIO DE JANEIRO9, BRAZIL – The daily report of the Ministry of Health released on Wednesday, August 5th, shows that Brazil has a total of 2,859,073 accumulated Covid-19 cases.

Of this total, 70.7 percent have recovered from the disease – 2,020,637 people; 97,256 have died and 741,180 patients are undergoing treatment.

In the past 24 hours, 1,437 deaths and 57,152 new Covid-19 cases were reported.

The lethality rate (number of deaths by the total of cases) stood at 3.4 percent, the same rate as in preceding days.

The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 46.3. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1,360.3.

Brazil remains second in the world ranking in terms of number of cases and deaths caused by the pandemic.

The leader is the United States. According to the Johns Hopkins University map, the country counts 157,690 deaths and 4,811,128 cumulative cases. Ranked third in number of cases by the US institution is India, with 1.9 million infections and 39,795 deaths. In terms of death toll, Mexico ranks third with 48,869 deaths and 449,000 confirmed cases.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of Covid-19 deaths are São Paulo (24,109), Rio de Janeiro (13,855), Ceará (7,867), Pernambuco (6,758), and Pará (5,818).

The states with the fewest deaths from the pandemic are Tocantins (415), Mato Grosso do Sul (442), Roraima (532), Acre (547), and Amapá (588).

São Paulo also leads the list of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus with 585,265 reports, followed by Ceará (181,443), Bahia (179,737), Rio de Janeiro (172,679), and Pará (160,695).

The states with the lowest number of infections to date are Acre (21,033), Tocantins (28,312), Mato Grosso do Sul (28,315), Roraima (34,296), and Amapá (37,318), all thinly populated.
