Quebec Offers Brazilians Scholarships and Jobs in Canada
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Québec International, the economic development body of Quebec province, in Canada, is offering scholarships and jobs to Brazilians who wish to move to the country.
Quebec is one of the Canadian provinces with the lowest unemployment rate, below three percent. In all, the body is offering Brazilians 297 positions in 14 companies in diverse segments of the economy.

In order to attract qualified immigrants, the country hopes to increase the concession of the Permanent Residency (PR) visa to 341,000 people in 2020, and 350,000 in 2021.
Manufacturing, health, and information technology are the main areas seeking qualified professionals.
Among the vacancies offered, most are in the area of information technology. Software developers and digital analysts are the positions with the highest number of vacancies available, where the salary can vary between Cad$64,000 and Cad$100,000 per year (R$199,000 and R$311,000).
For the health area, the program is selecting nurses and caretakers who have at least two years’ experience in the area. The annual salary can reach Cad$88,000 (R$ 274,000).
In addition to having previous professional experience in the chosen area, fluency in French is another requirement. According to the latest available data, in 2011, 78.1 percent of the population of Quebec registered French as their only language.
“Due to the level of excellence and ease of adaptation to local culture, Brazilians are among the most coveted by the Québec market,” comments the body’s international mobility director, Sara Tapia.
Scholarships
For those interested in pursuing their studies, the scholarships made available by the program are for masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Quebec at Rimouski (UQAR).

The scholarships are for the areas of biology, geography, oceanography, and chemistry. The financial assistance for the scholarship is between CAD$12,000 and CAD$21,000 per year (R$37,000 and R$65,000), depending on the area of choice.
Unlike job openings, the scholarships require an intermediate or advanced level of French and English.
Applications and interview
Applications must be conducted online on the program’s website and can be filed until January 20th. To apply, applicants must create a profile and list their qualifications and experience, and then apply for the job of their interest.
Business recruiters and university managers will conduct interviews via Skype between February 10th and 21st. No immigration documents are required to take part in the selection process.
Brazilian candidates who are approved will have the same conditions and labor rights as Canadians and may still apply for permanent residence in the country after completing one year of work.
According to Statistics Canada, the federal body that provides statistics on the population residing in Canada, approximately 29,315 Brazilians already have a permanent residence visa in the country. The province of Quebec has 925 Brazilian residents.
