RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In 2021, Petrobras was the publicly traded company with the highest net revenue. Vale recorded the highest profit and is still the most valuable company on the Stock Exchange, according to a survey by Economatica.

Petrobras closed 2021 leading the ranking of the largest Brazilian publicly traded companies in revenue. Vale registered the highest net profit among the companies listed on B3, maintaining the position of most profitable. That is what Economatica, a financial information provider, shows, based on last year’s consolidated financial results.

The ranking considers the balance sheets of more than 360 companies on the Brazilian Stock Exchange that have already disclosed their consolidated numbers for 2021, already contemplating the main companies in all sectors.

Petrobras' net revenue reached R$452.7 billion (US$95.5 billion) in 2021, with a 66% jump compared to the previous year.

Petrobras’ net revenue reached R$452.7 billion (US$95.5 billion) in 2021, with a 66% jump compared to the previous year. JBS (R$350.7 billion) was second, followed by Vale (R$293.5 billion).

Compared to 2020, there were few changes in positions at the top of the ranking of the largest in revenue. Raízen rose from eighth to third place, and Vibra (ex-BR Distribuidora) fell from third to fourth place. Gerdau entered the top 10.

The mining company Vale recorded record net income of R$121.2 billion last year, representing a 354% increase compared to the result for 2020. It was the highest nominal result ever recorded by publicly traded companies in Brazil, according to Economatica.

Petrobras recorded the second-highest profit of the year (R$106.7 billion), followed by Itaú, Bradesco, and JBS.

Another highlight of the year was Braskem, which reversed the 2020 loss and recorded the ninth highest profit among Brazilian companies last year.

In market value – the sum of the value of the company’s shares – on the B3, Vale remains in the lead. The company is valued at R$463.9 billion, considering the trading session closing on March 30.

In the sequence, the most valuable companies on B3 are Petrobras (R$ 446.1 billion), Itaú (R$252.7 billion), Ambev (R$238.7 billion), and Bradesco (R$198.1 billion).

After suffering a loss of almost 12% in 2021, Ibovespa – B3’s main stock index – accumulates an advance of nearly 15% in 2022, driven by the entry of foreign investors and by the rise in commodity companies.
