Covid-19: Paraguay registers stability and very good epidemiological indexes, infectologist says
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The percentage of infections remains within the parameter to be considered of low intensity, the expert said.
“The World Health Organization said that as long as 10% of people tested daily are positive, the epidemiological index is of low intensity. But obviously variants or mutations are expected and the particular feature of this virus is that it has 32 mutations. Uncertainty and expectation are therefore an issue, because in the end science is based on facts and on the accumulation of knowledge based on facts,” he said.
With respect to the Omicron, he said that “we know that it is more transmissible, but we still do not know how it will behave from the clinical standpoint and how effective vaccines are against this variant. The other very important point is whether the severely ill patients with this variant respond well to current treatments.”
