Official Brazilian Population Estimate Now Stands at 210 Million

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) released its population estimates today, August 28th. By July 1st, 2019, the reference date, Brazil had a total population of 210,147,125 people. The data related to individual states were published in yesterday’s edition of the Federal Gazette.

On July 1st last year, the number was 208,494,900. The absolute population growth in one year was 1,652,225 people, representing an increase of 0.79 percent.

The state with the lowest population remains Roraima, totaling 605,761 people, an increase of 5.06 percent compared to the 576,568 recorded last year. Amapá has a population of 845,731 people, and Acre has 881,935.

São Paulo is the most populous state, with 45,919,049 people, an increase of 0.83 percent in relation to the 45,538,936 people estimated a year ago. Minas Gerais has an estimated population of 21,168,791 people, and Rio de Janeiro ranks third with 17,264,943 people.
