Chile’s president refused to accept credentials of Israeli Ambassador

Chilean President Gabriel Boric refused to accept the credentials of Israeli Ambassador Gil Artzyeli and postponed the meeting until October to commiserate the death of a young Palestinian killed by the Israeli army.

The event was scheduled for Thursday, June 15, at the Chilean government headquarters, La Moneda Palace, where President Boric was to receive the credentials of the diplomat chosen by Israel to represent it in the South American country.

Still, the meeting was interrupted minutes before it began.

The Chilean government’s decision to postpone the meeting was in response to the death of Ugay Trad Salah; a 17-year-old boy killed in the northern West Bank by a headshot attributed to the Israeli army.

Chilean Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola arranged a last-minute meeting with Artzyeli to explain the situation and try not to anger the Israeli government.
