Paraguay acquires four Typhoon 4×4 armored vehicles from Streit Group for US$3 million

The Government of Paraguay has delivered four Typhoon 4×4 armored vehicles to the Internal Defense Operations Command (CODI) to reinforce its capabilities to combat organized crime.

The units were acquired from the Emirati firm Streit Group and involved an investment of approximately US$3 million.

“This is historic because the Armed Forces do not have this type of vehicle, and it has been more than 40 years since an investment was made.”

“With this, we are going to provide greater security to our personnel in their daily work in the fight against insecurity, terrorism, and organized crime, and we believe that we have to continue investing in capacity”, said the President of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, during the ceremony of delivery of the vehicles.

COOPERATION WITH NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES

The president also remarked that the only way to confront transnational organized crime is through cooperation.

“And to have cooperation, we must also have the same capacity as the security forces of neighboring countries to be efficient in this fight,” emphasized Abdo Benítez, justifying the investment.

“What has been built during this coordinated work between the Military Forces, the National Police, and the investment that has been made, in terms of technology and capacity, allows us to be at the same level as the security forces of neighboring countries”

“This always require a valid interlocution with a capacity at least similar to theirs, to be able to share information and carry out operations efficiently, taking into account that the greatest threat not only in Paraguay but in the region, is the deepening and globalization of organized crime”, he explained.

FEATURES

According to Streit Group, the Typhoon 4×4 is a mine/MRAP-resistant ambush-protected vehicle primarily used as an infantry troop transport and ground support vehicle for troops.

In addition, units can be configured as a command and control vehicles, medical evacuation platform,s or forward observation (FO).

The vehicle provides its crew Stanag 4569 Level 3 blast protection with a V-shaped monocoque armored hull design.

Highly maneuverable, with 60% slope and 30% side slope capabilities, and a high ground clearance of up to 920 mm, the armored vehicle is equally suited to challenging urban, mountainous, and rural terrain and has excellent field repairability.

The Typhoon can be armed with a 7.62 or 12.7 mm machine gun mounted on a turntable on the vehicle’s roof, with the gunner being protected by 360° armor plates.

Similarly, the armored vehicle can be equipped with a remotely controlled light weapon station.
