Covid-19 ceased to be leading cause of death in Brazil in second half of October – Arpen

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – October ended with positive results regarding the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. Data from civil registry offices point out that, last month, deaths from Covid-19 ceased to be the leading cause of disease-related deaths in the country.

The numbers were released in the Transparency Portal of the Association of Natural Person Registrars (Arpen Brazil). According to the figures made available by the organization, the leading cause of death by disease in the second half of October was sepsis.

The disease generates infections caused, in a significant part of the occasions, by bacteria. The disease spreads to organs such as the lungs, kidneys, and bladder.

Between October 16th and 31st this year, 6,697 deaths from sepsis were registered in Brazilian registry offices. Covid-19 deaths in this period total 3,608 registrations and occupy sixth place in the ranking. In second place on the list are deaths from pneumonia: there were 6,358 deaths.

Below are the main causes of recorded death linked to diseases in Brazil between October 16 and 31, 2021:

• Septicemia: 6,697;
• Pneumonia: 6,358;
• Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA): 4,231;
• Infarction: 4,185;
• Unspecific cardiovascular causes: 4,120;
• Covid-19: 3,608;
• Respiratory failure: 3,180;
• Undetermined cause: 299;
• Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS): 237.
