Brazilian congressman wants to open CPI against Minister of Justice Flávio Dino

Federal congressman Evair Vieira de Melo (PP-ES) proposed the creation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate the possible responsibility of the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, in the acts that took place in Brasília, on Sunday 8.

The parliamentarian believes that Dino knew in advance about the acts of vandalism that would occur in the Federal District, since the minister has privileged information from the Institutional Security Office (GSI) and the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin).

According to Vieira de Melo, Abin sent Dino a notification from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT).

The message informed that there was an unusual volume of buses being chartered to Brasilia — which would attract greater attention from the authorities. According to the text forwarded by ANTT, there were a total of 105 buses, with about 3,900 passengers.

Exclusively, the congressman told Oeste that there are serious indications that the minister had privileged information and prevaricated. Vieira considers that the way in which the Federal Supreme Court (STF) is acting in relation to the governor removed from the DF, Ibaneis Rocha, is exaggerated and has no legal support.

Why did you propose this CPI?

I am using a legal prerogative and exercising the full right of mandate. Supervising the Executive is our duty.

We have serious indications that the minister had privileged information and prevaricated: his lines, in numerous interviews, also go in the same direction. He leaves traces, which need to be investigated by Parliament.

Will more people be held accountable?

All people who had information and did not act to mitigate it need to be investigated.

The STF is acting in relation to the government of Brasília, in our opinion, in an exaggerated way and without legal support.

We understand that everyone should be treated the same.

Will the CPI also investigate President Lula?

We have information that President Lula is working behind the scenes to prevent the CPI.

He knows he could be the tip of the iceberg and he can get to him. His trip to Araraquara is under investigation.

All of our travel information requests have yet to be answered.

Do you fear any reaction from STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes?

If Justice Alexandre interferes in this CPI process, which I do not believe, it would be what we call a “shovel”.

It would be the declaration of partiality. He has no such legal prerogative.

Do you defend punishment for those involved, be they civilians or authorities?

We need exemplary punishment for vandalism actors.

And, at the same level, for everyone who could have acted with their powers and did not exercise them.
