Brazil: Federal Police carries out operation against accused of integrating militia in Rio

Federal police officers carry out an operation today (25) against those accused of integrating the leadership of a militia in the west of Rio de Janeiro.

Operation Dynasty aims to fulfill 23 preventive arrest warrants and 16 search and seizure warrants issued by the 1st Specialized Court in Combating Organized Crime in the Capital.

About 120 federal police officers participate in today’s action, with the support of the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ).

According to the Federal Police (PF), the investigations found “intense articulation and meticulous planning” for the murder of members of rival criminal factions and other people.

According to the MPRJ, the criminal group also maintains an extortion scheme that collects fees from merchants and service providers in militia-controlled areas.

“The evidence obtained so far shows widespread slaughter promoted by the organization, which has as a pillar for its operation and maintenance the destruction of rival militia members and any people who may help their enemies or harm the progress of their actions. criminal activities.”

“The investigation also revealed that there are criminals assigned exclusively to carry out, incessantly, the collection of personal data and the surveillance of the targets that must be ‘killed’,” informs the MPRJ in a note.

According to the Public Ministry, as of 7:20 am today, eight people had already been arrested, including one accused of leading the criminal group, who was found in a hotel in the city of Gramado (RS).

The targets of the action are investigated for a criminal organization, trafficking in firearms and ammunition, extortion, and corruption.
