A 28-year-old American tourist died yesterday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he had been hospitalized since Tuesday after being shot in a shootout in a favela that killed another man.
Joseph Thomas, who was shot in the neck, died early yesterday morning at a private hospital in southern Rio de Janeiro, where he had been admitted since Thursday because his condition had deteriorated, Globo news portal reported.
"We extend our sincere condolences to the family on the loss of Thomas," the U.S. consulate in Rio de Janeiro said in a statement.
