Brazil Generates 408,000 Formal Jobs in First Half of the Year
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian economy generated 408,500 formal jobs with employment contracts in the first half of this year, according to figures from the General Register of Employees and Unemployed (CAGED) released on Thursday, July 25th, by the Ministry of Economy.
The balance is the difference between hiring and dismissals. In the first six months of the year, the country recorded 8,221,237 hires and 7,812,737 terminations.
According to the government, this is the best result for the period since 2014. Over the same period last year, for instance, 392,461 formal positions with employment contracts were offered.
After three consecutive years of dismissals, the Brazilian economy resumed generating formal jobs with employment contracts in 2018, when 529,554 formal job openings were filled, according to official data.
By sectors
The majority of jobs generated were in the service sector. Trade, on the other hand, was the only sector to dismiss in the period.

Average Employment Salary
The government further reported that the average employee’s salary was R$1,606.62 (US$401.66) in June. In real terms (after inflation correction), there was an increase of 1.56 percent in the salary, or R$24.79, when compared to the same month in 2018.
In May 2019, however, there was a real increase of 1.42 percent, or R$22.57, in the average employment salary, according to the Ministry of Economy.
