Brazil´s Airline Sector Records Best Month Since Start of Covid-19

RIO DE JANEIRRO, BRAZIL – December 2020 data from the Brazilian airline sector were the most positive since Covid-19 began in Brazil. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), the number of passengers on domestic flights last month reached 5.6 million, the highest volume recorded since February.

ANAC’s survey shows that the average percentage of aircraft occupancy in the domestic market in December 2020 reached 81.6%, a reduction of only 2.5% compared to the same month in 2019. In the calculation for the 12 months of the year, the rate stood at 80%.

The ANAC survey shows that despite the positive numbers in December 2020, the sector is still struggling. According to data, between January and December 2020, 45.2 million domestic passengers were transported, less than the number recorded in the same period in 2019.

Tourism rebound

The rebound of the tourism sector is based on a range of health measures, such as those established by the Ministry of Tourism’s “Responsible, Clean and Safe Tourism” seal.

In Brazil, over 26,000 stamps have been issued, a visual label that identifies tourist establishments and guides who have declared their commitment to adopt biosafety protocols to protect tourists and workers against Covid-19, thereby enabling the resumption of tourist activities to occur safely in Brazil.

The seal is available for 15 tourist activities, such as lodging, theme parks, restaurants, cafeterias, bars, conference centers, markets, exhibitions, tourist guides, among others.

Each segment has a specific health protocol, developed in partnership with companies and institutions linked to the sector (trade), based on international guidelines. There is also a protocol exclusively designed for tourists, with individual behavior that safeguards everyone.

The documents have been endorsed by the National Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA).
