Volt Singapore to Establish Southeast Asia’s Largest EV Fast-Charging Hub

Volt Singapore, a unit of Keppel Infrastructure, announced its plan to construct Southeast Asia’s largest electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging hub in Singapore.

This facility will host 80 charging points for a range of EVs, including buses, taxis, and privately owned cars. This project aims to enhance the city’s sustainable transportation infrastructure.

Keppel Infrastructure, collaborating with Wanbang Digital Energy, commits to supporting Singapore’s Green Plan 2030.

This plan targets the phase-out of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2040 and the installation of 60,000 EV charging points by 2030.

The new hub aligns with these goals, significantly contributing to the city’s sustainable urbanization efforts.

Volt has already established over 200 charging points at prominent locations such as the National Gallery of Singapore and Jurong Point.

The company is expanding its reach to improve the accessibility and reliability of EV charging infrastructure across the city-state.

This new hub is part of a broader strategy to support the growing demand for EV infrastructure as more drivers transition to electric vehicles.

ComfortDelGro will operate the project in collaboration with its subsidiary for up to 15 years. ComfortDelGro is Singapore’s largest taxi operator and public bus operator.

The first phase is expected to be operational by the first half of 2026. It will include charging points with 360 kW and 120 kW ratings, allowing for charging times as fast as 10 minutes.

This initiative is expected to accelerate EV adoption in Singapore by providing efficient and convenient charging solutions.

Transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Singapore

EVs accounted for about one in three new cars registered from January to May, nearly double the 2023 figure of 18.1%, according to government data.

By 2030, ComfortDelGro aims to transition 90% of its car fleet and 50% of its buses to cleaner-energy vehicles.

Additionally, Grab has pledged to replace its ride-hailing fleet with low-emission vehicles by 2030. Volt’s efforts are crucial as cities worldwide shift towards greener transportation solutions.

This project not only supports Singapore’s environmental goals but also sets a benchmark for other Southeast Asian countries.

By providing more charging options, Volt helps reduce range anxiety, a common concern among EV users.
