RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The number of coronavirus cases has increased in Chile. On Saturday, the highest number of infections in the last four months was recorded, and new infection spikes were reported in nine of the country’s 16 regions.
In total, health authorities counted 2,895 new cases in the country, the highest number in four months, more than half of which occurred in the metropolitan region, which includes the country’s capital.

The rest of the infections were concentrated in eight other regions of the country, where the highest levels of the last four months were also recorded.
These are Valparaíso with 294 Covid-19 patients, Biobío with 252, Coquimbo with 104, Los Lagos with 102, La Aracaunía with 98, Antofagasta with 96, Aysén with 31 and Magallanes with 23.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Chile has reported more than 1.71 million infections and more than 37,800 deaths, according to official data.
