Thursday’s Morning Call: Market Insights Before Opening
As U.S. markets remain closed for the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, trading volumes are expected to be lower, potentially affecting market dynamics domestically.
Oil prices surged with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for August delivery rising by 1.29% to close at $83.88 per barrel.
Brent crude for September also increased by 1.28%, reaching $87.34 per barrel.
These movements were influenced by a notable decrease in U.S. crude stocks, reported at 12.157 million barrels, significantly surpassing the expected 1.1 million barrel drop.
Brazilian Economic Indicators
The Ibovespa index climbed by 0.70%, reaching 125,661 points.
The commercial dollar fell by 1.71% to R$5.56, reflecting a softer stance by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva towards the Central Bank policies.
Brazil’s industrial production saw a decline of 0.9% in May, exacerbated by regional floods, adding to the economic challenges in the sector.
The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for Brazil’s service sector registered a slight decrease to 54.8 in June, indicating ongoing expansion albeit at a tempered pace.
Fiscal Policy Adjustments
Brazil’s public expenditures have surged in 2023, with social security and healthcare costs escalating to R$1.23 trillion, raising concerns over fiscal sustainability.
That is why the Brazilian government has announced a budget cut of R$25.9 billion for 2025, aiming to achieve a zero deficit under the new fiscal framework approved by Congress in 2023.
Corporate and Market Developments
Sabesp’s share sale has attracted significant market attention with bids surpassing R$30 billion, marking a pivotal moment in Latin American corporate finance.
The upcoming launch of the Rio de Janeiro Stock Exchange, backed by Mubadala and slated for mid-2025, is set to introduce a competitive edge to the Brazilian financial markets.
This briefing encapsulates key market movements and economic indicators vital for today’s trading session, offering stakeholders critical insights as they start their day.
