Suspected Coronavirus Cases in Brazil Rise From 252 to 433
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The number of suspected cases of infection with the new coronavirus, called Covid-19, increased from 252 to 433 in Brazil, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday, March 2nd.
The country has two confirmed cases, men aged 61 and 32, both in São Paulo.
Out of the suspected reports, 162 have been ruled out. The majority of suspected cases are in São Paulo (163), followed by Rio Grande do Sul (73), and Minas Gerais (48).
In the world, there were 87,137 confirmed cases, 1,739 of which are new. The cases are located in 58 countries, with five new ones. The number of deaths has reached 2,977.
The ministry’s Health Surveillance Secretary, Wanderson de Oliveira, pointed out that there are confirmed cases in all continents. He said that at “no time” has the government advised people not to go to school or work due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“If you have returned from a trip to a coronavirus spot, we need to be vigilant of your health condition, reinforce hygiene habits, but this applies to everyone. If you have symptoms, seek a health care facility. At no time have we told people not to go to work or school,” the secretary said.
Contrary to the guidance of the Ministry of Health, private schools in São Paulo have sent notices to parents and students recommending quarantine in cases of families returning from countries affected by the disease.
