Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro informed on Saturday, that the presidential elections in his country will be held the following year, 2024, “without interference,” and assured that the new presidential term will begin in January 2025.

At the beginning of February, the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) issued a call to all its militants to be prepared for a possible upcoming call for presidential elections in the South American country.

However, Maduro, as president of that political organization, confirmed today that the presidential elections are still scheduled for next year.

“The country continues its course; the same will happen in 2024, the presidential elections will come, the people will vote, and the president or president elected in Venezuela will be sworn in on January 10, 2025,” said the head of state.

Maduro assured that Venezuela would follow its institutional course regardless of the pressures the nation receives: “we do not care what the oligarchies think about the political, cultural and economic life of Venezuela”, he assured.

“We never cared that they said that the president of Venezuela was (Juan) Guaidó; he was not president for an hour, not a second in this country (…), and what happened with that? The truth was imposed, the Bolivarian Constitution was imposed,” Maduro responded to his questioning.

The Venezuelan ruling party’s web portal also disseminated its top leader’s statements.

While the PSUV has declared that all its base structures are already preparing for the presidential elections, a fraction of the local opposition is organizing to hold internal elections and choose a candidate from the radical sector.
