Venezuelan President accepts resignation of his oil minister

Venezuelan Head of State, Nicolás Maduro, informed tonight that he has decided to accept the resignation of his Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Tareck El Aissami, who a few hours ago unilaterally announced his resignation from the post through the social network Twitter.

“Minister Tareck El Aissami has made known through social networks and has made known to me his resignation from the post of Minister of Petroleum.”

“I have decided to accept the resignation to facilitate all investigations,” the President declared before the cameras of the state television station.

Maduro highlighted that El Aissami “has expressed and demonstrated his willingness to provide all the information he handles and to support all the investigations against these groups of bandits and Mafiosi”.

Furthermore, he underlined that the now-former minister “has ratified his condition of revolutionary militant and is willing to cooperate in all the investigation”.

The President emphasized, shortly before concluding a speech with the national leadership of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela and other high state authorities, that the investigations “must result in the establishment of the truth, the punishment of the guilty and justice in all cases”.

He regretted that the fight against the scourge of corruption was a difficult task.

However, he emphasized his whole will carry it to the last consequences: “We are obliged by history to advance in this path”, Maduro stated.

In the last few hours, a robust corruption scheme has been unveiled in the South American country, including high-level agents of the state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), a congressman, and the National Superintendence of Crypto-assets.

Several people have been captured in the case, and other arrests are expected as of the progress investigation.
