USD/MXN hovered around 18.775 at 06:11 UTC on August 21, according to TradingView charts. Banco de México’s FIX for August 20 stood at 18.7572, the official settlement reference.

The S&P/BMV IPC ended August 20 at 58,221.47, a decline of 0.41% on the day. The IPC MidCap eased just 0.20%, outperforming peers, while the LargeCap dropped 0.49%, making it the weakest segment.

Regional sentiment offered little support. Brazil’s Ibovespa closed 2.10% lower at 134,432.26 on August 19, highlighting broader investor caution across Latin America.

The Dollar Index, published by ICE, held steady near the 98 level during overnight trade. ICE continues to calculate and disseminate the benchmark every second until 7:15 p.m. ET, with futures linked to the same measure.

In the ETF space, iShares MSCI Mexico (EWW) reported 28.4 million shares outstanding and a daily trading volume of 904,481 on August 20, with net assets of roughly $1.74 billion. These official figures did not yet show intraday creations or redemptions.

In the past 24 hours, Mexico’s equity market lost momentum while the peso remained range-bound. Banxico’s policy rate of 7.75% and a moderate inflation outlook continued to underpin carry trades, with the FIX close to 18.76.

At the same time, international risk aversion limited gains for the IPC, keeping the index capped below recent resistance. From a technical perspective, USD/MXN trades well below its 200-day moving average near 19.76, preserving a bearish bias for the dollar against the peso.

The daily RSI sits in the mid-50s, with a mildly positive MACD suggesting stable but limited upside. Tight Bollinger Bands between 18.70 and 18.95 confirm consolidation, while the four-hour chart shows RSI in the low-to-mid 50s and a flattening MACD, reinforcing a narrow 18.70–18.90 range.

The IPC maintains a constructive long-term trend above its 200-day average around 54,028. The daily RSI in the high-50s and a softening MACD signal modest but slowing momentum.

On the four-hour view, repeated failures near 58,300–58,400 show resistance, while the 57,700–58,000 zone continues to act as key support.

The Global Liquidity Index NDQ, shown as the yellow line on the charts, rose through July but flattened in August. That shift coincided with slower IPC advances and a stickier peso range, pointing to weaker liquidity support in the short term.

The data underline a stable peso and an equity market losing steam near resistance. IPC remains biased higher above its 200-day average, but a clear break above 58,400 is needed to revive momentum.
