Peru: Thirteen regions increased their exports in January

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) highlighted that in January 2022, thirteen regions of the interior of Peru increased their shipments to the world, favored by the high prices of raw materials.

“With this, to date, exports from the regions reached 2.783 billion dollars, where it remains to include a significant set of export operations to be regularized,” Mincetur specified.

The regions that increased their exports were Huanuco (87%), followed by Madre de Dios (84%), Amazonas (74%), Huancavelica (51%), Lambayeque (38%), Arequipa (34%), Moquegua (22%), Apurimac (19%), Tumbes (16%), San Martin (16%), La Libertad (15%), Piura (13%) and Cajamarca (7%).

Likewise, in the first month of the year, Peruvian agro exports grew 21% compared to the same month of 2021, highlighting the strong growth of coffee exports in the highlands (359%) and jungle (124%). In the coastal regions, sales of blueberries (100%) and grapes (9%) increased.

EXPORTS BY MACRO-REGION

Southern exports (30% of the country’s exports) increased by 10% to US$1.192 billion, thanks to higher mineral prices. The regions that grew were Arequipa (34%, due to copper shipments), Moquegua (22%, due to sulfuric acid, molybdenum, and copper shipments), and Apurímac (19%, due to copper and molybdenum shipments).

In the jungle, three regions increased their exports. These are Madre de Dios (84%), Amazonas (74%) and San Martin (16%). In Madre de Dios, sales of forestry products, gold, and nuts stood out; in Amazonas, coffee beans, and cocoa; and in San Martin, coffee and palm oil sales.

In the north, five regions increased their exports, including Lambayeque (38%), due to avocado and blueberry shipments; Tumbes (16%), due to shrimp shipments; La Libertad (15%), due to blueberry shipments; Piura (13%), due to phosphate and crude oil shipments; and Cajamarca (7%), due to coffee shipments.

On the other hand, in the central zone, exports decreased 43% due to lower sales of iron, copper, and gold. In January 2022, two regions increased their exports, Huánuco (87%) due to higher sales of cocoa beans, and Huancavelica (51%) due to higher sales of minerals such as lead, silver, and copper.
