Palmeiras Defeats Corinthians 2-0, Deepens Rival’s Woes in Brasileirão

Palmeiras won 2-0 against Corinthians on Monday in the 13th round of the Brazilian Championship.

Goals by Fabinho and Vitor Reis secured the victory at Allianz Parque. Despite Raphael Veiga’s red card at the 63rd minute, Palmeiras held on to win.

This victory returns Palmeiras to form while increasing pressure on Corinthians. Corinthians have not won in their last seven Brasileirão games and are now 19th with nine points.

Meanwhile, Palmeiras moved to second place with 26 points, one point behind Flamengo.

Palmeiras faces Grêmio on Thursday at Estádio Centenário in Caxias do Sul at 19:00 (Brasília time).

Corinthians play against Vitória on the same day at 20:00 at Neo Química Arena in São Paulo.

Palmeiras created the first chance at the second minute. Raphael Veiga struck hard from the edge of the box, but Matheus Donelli saved.

Corinthians had their first chance at the 16th minute when Wesley’s cross forced a save from Weverton.

Despite some attempts, neither team could find the net in the first half. Corinthians’ Wesley shot over the bar at 27 minutes.

At 40 minutes, Flaco López’s shot was saved by Donelli, and Fabinho missed over the crossbar three minutes later. In stoppage time, Mosquito’s cross to Raniele was weakly saved by Weverton.

Palmeiras resumed attacking two minutes into the second half. Raphael Veiga’s shot was saved, but his free-kick deflected off Fabinho’s head and went in at the 50th minute. Corinthians responded with Léo Maná’s cross-shot missing the goal.

Palmeiras doubled their lead at the 56th minute when Veiga’s corner found Vitor Reis, who headed it in.

A foul on Rodrigo Garro saw Veiga sent off at the 63rd minute. Despite being down a player, Palmeiras defended well.

Yuri Alberto’s shot at 68 minutes and Garro’s free-kick forced saves from Weverton. At 78 minutes, Bidu’s cross deflected off Menino, and Weverton made a crucial save.

Despite playing with ten men, Palmeiras controlled the match to secure their victory. Flaco missed a late chance, but it did not affect the final outcome.

This match underlines Palmeiras’ resilience and highlights Corinthians’ deepening struggles in the league.
