The Gold Glove is Major League Baseball’s top award for defense, so the win matters to US fans and to teams shopping for versatile players. Dubón, who was born in San Pedro Sula in Honduras, has now won the award in both of the sport’s leagues.

How Dubón Wins Third Gold Glove With Atlanta

Dubón beat two other finalists, Jared Triolo of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Ildemaro Vargas of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played second base, third base, shortstop, left field and center field in 2026, mostly shortstop and left field.

Major League Baseball’s data credited him with six Outs Above Average, which put him in the 91st percentile. That measure counts extra outs made against an average fielder, and the Braves got him from the Astros in November 2025 for infielder Nick Allen.

At the plate he batted .276 with 12 home runs, 73 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases in 153 games. His 2026 contract with Atlanta ends this winter, so his 2027 team is open.

Why the Third Award Is Rare

Dubón won the American League utility award with the Astros in 2023 and again in 2025. As Dubón wins third Gold Glove in 2026, he also collects his first in the National League.

The utility category was introduced in 2022, and Major League Baseball says no other player has won it more than once. Rawlings worked with the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), a group of baseball statisticians, on a separate defensive formula for utility players.

What It Means for Honduras

Dubón’s path began in San Pedro Sula, where he attended a baseball clinic at age 15 and then moved to Sacramento, California, for high school. The Boston Red Sox drafted him in 2013, and he reached the major leagues in July 2019.

What It Means for You

For a US fan, the award marks Dubón as one of the most reliable defenders in the league. He can fill several spots on the field, which helps any team that needs cover for injuries.

His contract with Atlanta ends after 2026, so he is due to become a free agent this winter. No new contract has been announced as of Monday 2 November.

What Is Not Known

Dubón wins third Gold Glove with his future open, because it is not known which team he will play for in 2027. It is also not known whether the Braves will make him an offer, and the size of any new contract has not been announced.

It is also not known which positions his next team will ask him to play. He started games at seven positions for Houston in 2025.
