IPC Drops to Key Support as Mexican Stock Market Faces Pressure
Mexico’s S&P/BMV IPC index fell 0.08% to 57,721.89 on June 2, 2025, closing near its session low of 57,653.86. Official exchange data confirms the decline, marking the third consecutive session of losses for the benchmark.
The index opened at 57,771.37 and failed to recover intraday, reflecting persistent selling pressure and a lack of buying momentum. The technical picture shows the IPC now sits almost exactly on its 50-day moving average at 57,652.00, a level that has acted as support since the rally began in April.
The 200-day moving average remains well below at 53,685.12, confirming the longer-term uptrend is still intact. However, the price closed just above the lower Bollinger Band at 57,537.77, signaling increased volatility and a possible test of further support if selling continues.
The chart’s Ichimoku Cloud remains below the current price, but the recent candles have pierced the cloud’s upper edge, a sign of weakening bullish momentum. The 9- and 21-period moving averages are converging, further indicating consolidation and reduced upward force.
Momentum indicators confirm this shift. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 48, reflecting neutral to slightly bearish sentiment. The MACD remains positive but is flattening, showing that upward momentum has stalled.

Volume stayed moderate, suggesting no panic but a clear lack of conviction from buyers. This decline follows a week of growing concerns about Mexico’s economic outlook.
Official inflation data from the national statistics agency reported a 4.22% annual rate for early May, above the central bank’s target and analyst forecasts. The Bank of Mexico’s recent rate cut to 8.5% has not yet translated into stronger growth, and some analysts now urge caution on further easing.
Banco BASE stated that the rise in core inflation is a concern, as it signals the central bank has not stabilized price growth. Currency markets added to the pressure.
The peso strengthened sharply, with the dollar falling 1.14% to 19.2174 pesos, its lowest level since September 2024. While a strong peso can help control inflation, it can also weigh on exporters’ profits.
Among the biggest winners, Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion rose 3.34%, Genomma Lab Internacional gained 2.11%, and Grupo Carso was up 2.01%.
These stocks benefited from sector-specific news and defensive positioning. On the losing side, Orbia Advance Corporation dropped 2.80%, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores fell 2.52%, and GCC lost 1.68%, reflecting profit-taking and weaker industrial sentiment.
Compared to regional peers, Mexico’s IPC has outperformed year-to-date but now shows signs of fatigue. Brazil’s Bovespa and Chile’s IPSA have also faced headwinds from commodity volatility and policy uncertainty.
The IPC’s price-to-earnings ratio stands at 12.89, within its historical range, and ETF flows remain positive, but caution is rising.
The IPC’s close at support, softening momentum, and rising inflation risks suggest the market faces a critical test. Investors now watch for signs of stabilization or a deeper correction in the days ahead.
