Haiti ex-Minister of Justice Rockefeller Vincent calls for Prime Minister’s resignation

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “Haiti is experiencing the worst political crisis in its history,” Vincent lamented in an interview with CNN television network, where he argued that “in all respectable countries, once implicated in such a matter, the Prime Minister should resign.”

“He should resign. And we are still waiting for him to resign,” he added.

Vincent was fired along with the country’s prosecutor Bed-Ford Claude, who indicated he would indict Henry in connection with the Haitian President’s assassination. The investigation into the assassination found several phone calls between the current Prime Minister and suspect Joseph Felix Badio, prompting the now dismissed prosecutor of Port-au-Prince to call for Henry’s indictment.

The Prime Minister’s office has categorically rejected the allegations. “That night, the Prime Minister received countless calls from all kinds of people who, upon hearing the terrible news, were concerned about his personal safety,” in addition to the fact that “many people wanted to inquire about his situation” after the assassination, as well as “the measures taken to ensure his physical integrity,” the Haitian government said.

In relation to Claude’s dismissal, the ex-Minister of Justice explained how he alerted the Prime Minister that his dismissal would cause “problems,” something that Henry ignored, in an effort to “cover his tracks,” Vincent said.

“When you fire the prosecutor and the Minister of Justice and place someone who knows nothing about justice in their post … what exactly are you trying to do?” he noted, after recalling that “the night of the President’s death, a few hours later … he had telephone conversations with the President’s assassin.”
