The Groundation concert is on Friday 27 November 2026 at 8 p.m. at Circo Voador, a concert hall in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro’s nightlife district. Tickets are listed as available, but the seller shows no prices yet.

For a US fan, the Groundation concert is a Friday-night reggae show in a famous music district, with a Bob Marley tribute on the bill. For a visitor, it comes with an unusual entry rule: bring 1 kg of food for charity.

What the Show Is and Why It Matters

Groundation is a California-based reggae band that blends roots reggae with jazz, funk and dub, according to its own website. Roots reggae is the slow, spiritual style of Jamaican music that Bob Marley made famous.

The Groundation concert is part of the band’s South America Tour 2026. The ticket seller says it carries a project called A Tribute to Bob Marley, plus B-sides (lesser-known songs) and the band’s own anthems.

The concert belongs to the Festival Clássicos do Reggae, which Eventim calls a new label from PECK that debuts in Rio de Janeiro. Eventim, Brazil’s online ticket seller for this show, does not say who PECK is.

The opening act is Veteranos do Riddim, a new project by the bassist and producer Nelson Meirelles. The seller lists Bidu Cordeiro, Cláudio Menezes and Felipe Pinaud as its other musicians, and DJ Jef Rodríguez plays between sets.

Rio has other big shows that month, including Mariah Carey in Rio de Janeiro on 21 November. Tickets, Cost and the Food Donation

Eventim lists one sector for the Groundation concert, called Geral, which is general admission. The page shows no ticket price, and it says only that the service fee is calculated while you pick your ticket.

The page marks the show as available and does not say whether it is close to selling out. It also offers a menu of benefit options next to general sale, and some of those need a promotional code.

Eventim calls the show an ingresso solidário, a charity-style entry, and asks every guest to hand over 1 kg of non-perishable food at the entrance. Salt and sugar do not count, so pack something else, such as rice or pasta.

The Circo Voador box office sells tickets for the Groundation concert and the rest of the programme with no service fee, according to the seller. It opens two hours before the doors, so buying there is a way to skip the online fee.

Eventim warns that your browser must accept third-party cookies to finish an online purchase. Buy only on the official seller’s page, and do not buy from street resellers.

The Venue and Getting There

Circo Voador sits at Rua dos Arcos, s/n, postcode 20230-060, in Lapa, according to Eventim. The abbreviation s/n means the address has no street number.

Lapa is the district around the Arcos da Lapa, an 18th-century aqueduct with white arches that marks the entrance to Rio’s main nightlife area. Our nightlife guide says its streets fill after 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with much of the scene outdoors.

Eventim says the venue has no parking, so plan on a ride-hailing app, a taxi or the metro. Cinelândia, Glória and Carioca are metro stations in the city centre near Lapa, according to the metro operator MetrôRio.

Last-train times on a Friday night are not confirmed here, so check with MetrôRio before you rely on it. Our guide says Uber and 99, a Brazilian ride-hailing app, both work reliably in Lapa after midnight.

The same guide puts a beer in a Lapa music venue at R$15 to R$30 (about US$3 to US$6). Our guide gives no prices for this venue, and the show’s own bar prices are not published.

Tips for US and Foreign Visitors

US citizens need a visa to enter Brazil for any purpose, and tourists use the e-visa, according to the US State Department. The official application site is brazil.vfsevisa.com, and our guide explains the steps.

Your US passport must be valid on the day you enter and have one blank page for the entry stamp. Our full explainer is the Brazil e-visa guide for US citizens.

The State Department advises Americans to exercise increased caution in Brazil because of crime. Drugging to rob victims in bars and nightclubs is widespread, it says, so never leave a drink unattended.

The department also says not to walk on beaches after dark and to avoid municipal buses, especially at night. After a late show, order a ride from inside the venue or a bar, and do not wander toward empty streets.

Carry one card and a little cash to the Groundation concert, and keep your phone out of sight on the street. Do not resist a robbery, the State Department says, and hand over your belongings.

The emergency numbers in Brazil are 190 for police, 192 for an ambulance and 193 for the fire brigade. The US Consulate General in Rio is at Avenida Presidente Wilson 147, in the Castelo district, and its main line is +55 21 3823-2000.

The after-hours emergency line for US citizens is +55 21 3823-2029. The State Department says Medicare and Medicaid do not apply overseas and many providers accept only cash, so buy travel insurance with medical evacuation cover.

Rio is two hours ahead of New York in November, so 8 p.m. in Lapa is 6 p.m. Eastern time. Our Rio de Janeiro Nightlife Guide 2026 covers costs, safety and how the scene works.

Groundation’s Other Brazil Dates

The band’s own website lists a show at Caza Brava in Vitória, a city in Espírito Santo state, on 20 November. It also lists the Festival Miçanga in Recife, in Pernambuco state, on 21 November.

In São Paulo the band plays on Sunday 29 November, see Groundation in São Paulo on 29 November. A separate reggae festival, the República do Reggae festival in Salvador on 28 November, is a different event.

What Is Not Confirmed Yet

Eventim shows no ticket prices, no sale dates and no producer for the Groundation show. It also does not say how many people the room holds or how long the set lasts.

The listing gives 8 p.m. as the show time but does not separate the doors from the first act. The seller’s artist page says the doors open at 8 p.m. Check the time on your ticket before you leave.

The age rule is worded in two parts: age 18 and over, and people over 14 may enter with a parent or guardian. The artist page says 14 to 17, so contact the venue if you plan to bring a teenager.

The Bob Marley tribute, the opening act and the PECK festival label appear only on the seller’s artist page, not on the event page. We found no statement from the band or the venue that confirms the set list for the Groundation concert.
