Formula E becomes entertainment for São Paulo city dwellers this weekend

The Julius Baer São Paulo E-Prix 2023, the sixth round of the 9th season of the Formula E World Championship, will take place next Saturday (25) at the Anhembi Sambódromo in São Paulo.

With two Brazilians in the grid, the category, recognized for being the first in the world with zero carbon emissions, will move more than R$300 million (US$57.2 million) in the economy, according to Ricardo Nunes, mayor of the capital.

The Brazilian stage is sponsored by brands such as TAG Heuer, Moet & Chandon, Heineken, and DHL, among others.

Created in 2014, the sport has already had two Brazilian champions: Nelsinho Piquet in the first year of the world championship and Lucas Di Grassi in 2017.

Di Grassi is still competing and, this season, will defend the Indian team Mahindra.

Besides him, the other Brazilian on the grid is Sergio Sette Câmara, who races for NIO 333 Racing.

The current season of the top electric category of motorsports also marked the debut of the third generation of cars, the Gen3.

With a new visual identity, the car is 100 Km/h faster than Generation 2 and can reach a speed of 332 Km/h.

A Formula 1 car, for example, reaches a speed of approximately 360 Km/h.

ONE ENGINE IN THE REAR, ONE IN THE FRONT

Another important change is that the cars now have two engines: one in the front and one in the rear. Because of this innovation, 40% of all the energy consumed during the race will come from the car itself.

“Formula E is the only one with zero carbon emissions, which already gives it a trendy and innovative character.”

“Besides this, all the technology that will be developed in all its systems will certainly migrate to commercial cars, so I strongly believe that Formula E will become more popular every year and will send positive signals for the expansion of the use of electric cars around the world,” says Ricardo David, director of Elev, a company that operates in the field of electric mobility.

In 2022, McLaren, one of the traditional Formula 1 team, entered Formula E officially by buying Mercedes.

In addition, Italian carmaker Maserati is also present in the race, returning to motorsport in partnership with Venturi Racing.

With tickets ranging from R$300 to R$350 (US$57 to US$67), five of the eight sectors available for this Saturday’s race are already sold out on the event’s official website.

“The Brazilian people have always had a strong connection with motor racing. We must remember how representative the figures of Ayrton Senna, Emerson Fittipaldi, Felipe Massa, and other drivers still are in our country.”

“Formula E tends to gain more and more visibility here, especially with the young public engaged with brands that show concern for sustainability.”

“There is a huge potential to be explored with this kind of audience, and it is necessary to go where this consumer is, such as in social networks and streaming platforms,” says Renê Salviano, CEO of Heatmap agency and expert in sports marketing.

“Just as Formula 1 and IndyCar racing have represented significant importance in the automotive market over time, the great advances in this industry have come from transformations and improvements in the vehicles used in these races.”

“I do not doubt that this category will popularize the electric vehicle and make it better known,” adds Ricardo David.
