Embraer Unveils Photos of Prototype Electric Propulsion Aircraft

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Embraer released yesterday, August 16th, the first images of its prototype aircraft with 100 percent electric propulsion, still under development.

“During the next few months, the companies’ technical teams will continue to test the systems in the laboratory for later inclusion in the technology demonstrator and carrying out tests in real operating conditions. The prototype’s first flight is scheduled for 2020,” the company said.

To develop the aircraft, Embraer is using the small single-engine EMB-203 Ipanema platform as its base. Ipanema is known for being widely used in agricultural aviation.

“The electrification process is part of a set of efforts made by Embraer and other companies in the aeronautical sector that aim to comply with their commitments to environmental sustainability, as is already being done with biofuels to reduce carbon emissions,” said the company.
