Dollar records biggest daily loss in 16 months and closes at R$5.37
Relief in domestic and international markets led the dollar to record the most significant daily loss in 16 months, closing below R$ 5.40. The stock market rose more than 1% and closed above 100 thousand points for the first time in almost three weeks.
The commercial dollar closed this Monday (25) and sold at R$ 5.37, dropping R$ 0.129 (-2.35%). The price moved to a low throughout the day and closed near the session’s lows.

The trading euro, which closed at R$5.61 last week after the European Central Bank raised interest rates, fell 2.14% to close at R$ 5.49. This was the first time since previous day 11 when the currency closed below R$ 5.40. The dollar recorded a high of 2.58% in July and a decline of 3.69% in 2022.
A recovery in the stock market also marked the day. Ibovespa index B3 closed at 100,270 points, up 1.36%. The indicator closed at the highest level since July 8.
The national and international scenarios improved the financial market after days of tension. In Brazil, investors reacted positively to the statement of the Special Secretary of Finance and Budget of the Ministry of Economy, Esteves Colnago, that the draft Budget Law 2023 foresees the return of Brazil’s survival assistance (Auxilio Brasil) aid to R$400, reducing the pressure on public budgets.
In the foreign market, the dollar fell overall with the reduction of tensions related to the Federal Reserve (U.S. central bank) meeting today (26) and Wednesday (27).
Bets that the Fed will raise interest rates in the world’s largest economy by one percentage point, equivalent to a 0.75 point increase, were reduced. Higher interest rates in advanced economies encourage a capital flight from emerging markets such as Brazil.
