Brazil posts smallest current account deficit in five years in March
Brazil recorded a current account deficit of US$2.764 billion in March, the smallest negative result in the period in five years, amid solid foreign trade performance, central bank data showed Monday.
The figure was the best March reading since 2017 when the country recorded a current account surplus of US$185.5 million.
It was supported by an improvement in the trade balance, which showed a surplus of US$ 6.109 billion compared to a deficit of US$514 million in March 2021.

Data releases resumed after the end of a strike by central bank officials that had suspended the release of central bank indicators for months.
Brazil, a strong exporter of commodities, benefited from a surge in international prices earlier in the year triggered by the Russia-Ukraine war.
In 12 months, the current account deficit reached 1.41% of GDP, according to central bank data.
Foreign direct investment totaled US$7.581 billion in March, reaching 3.08 percent of GDP in the 12 months.
