Crypto Markets See Diverging Trends as Altcoins Rally and Bitcoin Faces ETF Outflows
The cryptocurrency market on February 20, 2025, displayed contrasting dynamics between Bitcoin and altcoins. Bitcoin struggled with bearish technical signals and ETF outflows, while altcoins like XRP and Litecoin surged on speculative optimism.
Bitcoin closed at $98,338.84 after trading between $94,000 and $98,500. ETF outflows dominated the day, with $364.8 million withdrawn across major funds, including $112 million from BlackRock’s IBIT and $98.3 million from ARK Invest’s ARKB.
Analysts linked these outflows to profit-taking and cautious institutional sentiment. Technical indicators reinforced the bearish outlook: the RSI on Bitcoin’s 4-hour chart dropped from 70 to 55, signaling weakening momentum, while the MACD crossed below its signal line.
Trading volume rose to 35,000 BTC, up from 30,430 BTC the previous day, indicating heightened market activity but without a clear bullish breakout. Resistance at $98,000 remained intact, with analysts eyeing a potential pullback toward $85,565 if bearish trends persist.
Altcoins provided a stark contrast as XRP and Litecoin led gains. XRP surged to $3.36 earlier in the week before stabilizing at $3.25 on February 20. Speculation around an XRP spot ETF approval drove this rally, supported by $10 billion in trading volume.
Crypto Market Update
Technical analysis showed XRP consolidating near its support at $2.65 while testing resistance at $2.75. A bullish breakout could push prices toward $2.85–$2.90 if momentum continues.
Litecoin gained 16%, reaching a high of $132 amid growing confidence in its ETF approval prospects. The Fear & Greed Index for Litecoin reflected neutral sentiment at 50, but technical indicators showed bullish momentum with key resistance levels at $136 and $140.
Ethereum traded within a tight range between $2,650 and $2,750, closing at $2,762.83. Analysts noted a symmetrical triangle pattern forming on ETH’s daily chart, suggesting a potential breakout above the critical $2,800 resistance level toward a target of $3,055.
Solana rebounded slightly to trade at $210 after dipping to $208 earlier in the day. Technical indicators showed bullish divergence on the MACD and dynamic support from short-term moving averages.
The market’s divergence highlights shifting investor preferences as altcoins gain traction amid Bitcoin’s struggles with institutional outflows and bearish technicals. Regulatory clarity and ETF developments remain key drivers for upcoming price action across the market.
