Chile experienced a groundbreaking moment in its energy sector by predominantly using clean energy for an entire hour for the first time.

Diego Pardow, the Energy Minister, proudly announced this.

On October 30, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM local time, 93.5% of Chile’s electrical system was powered by clean energy sources.

This achievement set a new record in Chile’s pursuit of renewable energy. Pardow shared this exciting news on his social media account.

The minister expressed great satisfaction with this progress. He views it as a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions in Chile.

Notably, there has been a consistent increase in the use of renewable energy recently.

Chile has also made strides in lowering its carbon footprint. The country has cut carbon emissions by 20% compared to the previous year.

This reduction reflects Chile’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Aiming to be carbon-neutral and climate-resilient by 2050, Chile has set ambitious environmental goals.

Top 15 Global Destinations

These efforts have positioned the country among the top 15 global destinations for renewable energy investments.

President Gabriel Boric has acknowledged the challenges ahead. One key challenge is enhancing the capacity for energy storage and transmission.

This must be done without imposing additional costs on consumers.

Additionally, Chile faces the task of streamlining the process for obtaining necessary permits.

These permits are crucial for advancing renewable energy projects. They often involve environmental and sector-specific approvals.

Simplifying this process is vital for the country’s renewable energy future.
