Candlelight Montevideo: The Season, the Prices and the Missing Vivaldi Date

A string quartet, a room full of candles and sixty minutes of music. The format has become a global business, and Montevideo has a full season of it.

If you have looked for the Vivaldi Four Seasons concert in Montevideo and found a page with no date on it, there is an explanation, and there is plenty else on.

Why the Vivaldi Page Has No Date

The listing for the Four Seasons in Montevideo is permanently live but carries no dates and no prices. It says only that no tickets are available at the moment.

That is not a fault. Fever, the company behind the series, keeps an evergreen page for every programme it runs or intends to run in a city, and those pages sit empty between runs.

Two other Montevideo programmes behave exactly the same way. The Adele tribute and the Queen versus ABBA night both show no dates, no prices and the same waiting-list prompt.

What cannot be established is whether the Vivaldi night has ever been staged in Montevideo, is sold out, or has simply never been scheduled there. The page does not say, and there is no archive.

What Is Actually on Sale

The next concert is The Lord of the Rings at the Sofitel in Carrasco on Sunday 27 September, with sittings at half past four, half past six and half past eight.

It is played by the Cuarteto Aramis, two violins, viola and cello, across fifteen pieces from the trilogy. Prices run from 1,200 pesos, about US$30, to 2,450 for the premium zone, roughly US$61.

October moves to the Hyatt Centric on the Rambla, with an Ed Sheeran and Coldplay night on the 17th and two programmes on the 18th, from 1,300 pesos, about US$32.

November brings tributes to Joan Manuel Serrat and Taylor Swift on the 8th, from 1,100 pesos, roughly US$27. December has Hans Zimmer at the Hyatt and Christmas Classics at the Radisson.

The season runs into next year, with Coldplay against Imagine Dragons and a Maná tribute on 16 January and a Valentine’s night in February, from 900 pesos, about US$22.

The Rules Nobody Reads Until It Is Too Late

Each concert lasts about sixty minutes and doors open forty-five minutes beforehand. Nobody is admitted once the music has started.

You buy a zone, not a seat. Position within the zone is decided by arrival order, so turning up early is worth more than paying more.

The minimum age is eight, and anyone under sixteen must be with an adult. The venues are wheelchair accessible.

At the Sofitel, hotel policy bars masks and anything else that hides the face, which catches people out at themed nights.

The Business Behind the Candles

Candlelight is not a licensed format sold to local promoters. It is run directly by Fever, a Spanish company founded in 2012 and now headquartered in London.

It began in Madrid in 2019 and by mid-2024 was running in more than 150 cities. Venues have included the Atomium in Brussels and the Eiffel Tower.

Fever raised 227 million dollars led by Goldman Sachs in 2022 at a billion-dollar valuation, and a further 110 million a year later at 1.8 billion.

The format was engineered rather than inherited. Concerts were cut from ninety minutes to sixty, moved out of formal halls, and built around a setting designed to be photographed.

It has critics. A cellist who played Candlelight dates wrote that he was hired through a subcontractor with no direct contact with the company, and questioned whether pop tribute programmes build audiences for older music.
