RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian population’s evaluation of Jair Bolsonaro’s government remained stable in an XP/IPESPE survey conducted after the release of the April 22nd cabinet meeting video.

There were also questions regarding the cabinet meeting video, released by Supreme Court (STF) Justice Celso de Mello last Friday, May 22nd. According to the survey now released, 71 percent of respondents are aware of the video, and among them, 59 percent believe it had a negative impact on the government, while 30 percent believe it was positive.

In the exchange of accusations between Bolsonaro and Sérgio Moro, who denounced interference in the Federal Police, 46 percent believe that the ex-Minister of Justice is telling the truth, while 21 percent believe in the President.

The negative assessment of Bolsonaro’s performance in the crisis triggered by the coronavirus, which had been growing since March, diminished three points and reached 55 percent. The result comes after the eight-point increase since late April in the Bolsonaro government’s negative assessment. The positive assessment had dropped six percentage points in the period prior to the current survey.

As for the direction of the Brazilian economy, there was a variation between 57 and 54 percent of the group that believes it is on the wrong track, while those who think it is on the right track dropped from 28 to 27 percent.

The survey was conducted on May 26th and 27th, with a thousand nationwide interviews. The error margin is 3.2 percentage points plus or minus.
