Lula Endorses Continuous Inflation Target System

President Lula endorsed a decree altering Brazil’s inflation target framework. Starting in 2025, Brazil will adopt a continuous target system with a 3% goal.

This decree, expected in the Official Gazette, was discussed in a meeting at the Planalto Palace.

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, Institutional Relations Minister Alexandre Padilha, and Acting Chief of Staff Miriam Belchior attended, with Central Bank’s Monetary Policy Director Gabriel Galípolo also present.

The decree aims to precede the CMN meeting, allowing the council to establish the 3% target.

Special Commission on Drug Possession Legislation

Arthur Lira, President of the Chamber of Deputies, initiated a special commission to debate Constitutional Amendment Proposal 45/23, which criminalizes drug possession.

This move coincides with the Supreme Federal Court’s decision to decriminalize personal marijuana use.
