RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, said on Monday (28) that Brazil will issue a decree to ensure access of Ukrainians to Brazilian humanitarian passports.

The announcement was made in an interview with radio station Jovem Pan and circulated on the president’s social networks. “We will do everything to welcome the Ukrainian people,” he stressed.

According to Bolsonaro, the decree that will regulate the entry of Ukrainians with humanitarian passports will be published in the coming days.

The president said Brazil will continue to take a neutral stance toward the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began last week.

The president said that Brazil is not expected to impose sanctions against Russia as a result of the conflict. According to Bolsonaro, Brazil is “very dependent” on Russian fertilizers, and in the event of sanctions, the agricultural industry would be seriously affected. “I think these sanctions are unlikely to succeed,” he said.

EVACUATION OF BRAZILIANS

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), eight Itamaraty servers arrived today in the Polish capital of Warsaw to help rescue Brazilians who cannot return to their country due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“This task force will send a delegation to Lviv in Ukraine, where an office will be set up to assist Brazilians who are trying to leave the country,” the release said on social media.
